Creative Retreats Online
We will have both free creation time and intentional creation time where you are asked to journal and reflect upon the myth and questions before you start your creative expression. Within the journey space, we explore passing and current seasons, inner shifts, outer expressions, emotional tides and deep desires. From the mythic to the mundane, with many expressions, energies, archetypes and parts of self we will explore our stories with curiosity, courage, wonder and awe; seeking multiple perspectives and our own true rhythm within the creative process. All session times listed are Flagstaff, AZ time. Please see this website to find your time zone.
June: Little Red Riding Hood: Lessons in Transforming Innocence Wounds
Sunday, June 25 from 11am-1pm (Flagstaff time -MST )
Little Red Riding Hood is a fairy tale most of us are familiar with. As we shapeshift into this innocent little girl, we can easily imagine--if not remember--a time when we were as guileless and gullible as she. A time when we may have taken a walk or gone somewhere familiar only to encounter someone or some situation with which we were not familiar. We may recall a time in girlhood when someone appeared to be nice on the surface or pretended to be someone they was not-- when we were duped or misguided by an older kid or adult who took advantage of us in some way. And there may have been a time when we felt “swallowed up” by a person or situation beyond our control, and eventually found our way out through our own cunning, through help by an elder, or by gaining wisdom and experience. Indeed, even as adult women, we may have found ourselves in the thrall of a predator and had to fight or figure out an escape. If we look at this tale as one in which Innocence must gain Experience by learning from mistakes (often the hard way), it is through her meeting with a trickster predator that the innocent girl is initiated into the world of experience.
Cost: $60
You will be provided with a copy of the fairy tale, a lesson about themes in this fairy tale, and journal questions. These can be studied and read ahead of time or during the retreat.
Supplies: I recommend gathering these to use during the retreat: a journal, magazines, a copy of the children's book or other books (find at thrift stores) or images what these themes mean to you. Glue, scissors, paper, pen, fabric, paints are useful. Using cake rounds or cardboard are a good strong base to build your collage upon. Consider 5X8 cards for SoulCollage® to be found online or through KaleidoSoul.

About Creative Retreats
Welcome to the way of the Seeker, the Wanderer, the Explorer. During these retreats you will become the heroine of our own journey--the Innocent, who begins the Initiation to discover what she can about herself, her shadow, the unknown, and life in the big, bad--and also wonderful--world we live in. Fairy tales are an ancient tradition. Some thousands of years in the making and retelling. Many fairy tales derive from the old myths and folk tales that have been told in one form or another since time immemorial. As we explore these tales we will rely on Jungian interpretations and ways of seeing symbols, archetypes and motifs. This will allow us to explore the psychic depths of these stories and help us understand how they apply to our own individuation process.
Our journey inspires us to follow the cycles, phases and seasons of our life through a series of symbolic references and mythic themes. Within the experiential journey space, we explore passing and current seasons, inner shifts, outer expressions, emotional tides and deep desires. From the mythic to the mundane, with many expressions, energies, archetypes and parts of self we will explore our stories with curiosity, courage, wonder and awe; seeking multiple perspectives and our own true rhythm within the creative process.
We gather together in a circle to discover the mystery and magic of the journey. In this circle we honor and support each other and self, exploring many themes through the lifespan. This journey process is designed to be inspirational, and intuitive. It may be non-linear, or you may discover a defined pattern as you move through the seasons, with guided process, prompts, creative suggestions and more!
About Me
I trained with Kat Kirby to become a certified SoulCollage® facilitator in 2018 after practicing SoulCollage® since 2011. For the last 12 years, I've been facilitating Expressive Art experiences that blend therapy concepts with self-expression to facilitate growth, insight and deepen your creative practices. I have my Bachelors in Social Work from Northern Arizona University and my Masters in Social Work (Clinical Concentration) from University of Texas at Austin. My work as a therapist influences my facilitation skills and personal creative practices. Since 2010, I have worked with many teachers practicing and exploring a variety of powerful life-changing methods of experiential process and learning, including shamanic work, healing ritual, dreaming practices, and transformational art. As a coach and guide I focus on depth work, transformative process and conscious life design.
At the heart of my work is engaging depth and creativity through celebrating The Wheel of Year Sabbats; marking and celebrating the seasons, moon phases; reading and using stories, myths, fairy tales, music and lyrics, mythopoetic work, journaling for discovery of Self and deepening communication between Psyche and Self. I explore the psyche and the inner landscape through mixed media art. I create from topics of hidden and disowned emotions, dreams, desires and possibility, unraveling and reweaving experience to find new perspectives. I recognize the tremendous healing elements, both personally and communally, in exploring, exposing and embracing the spectrum of self through art. I have designed my workshops to enrich my personal and professional work, and share the language of my soul. I am committed to and passionate about building communities that inspire individual process, collective healing and wholeness, supporting discovery and life changing insight through art. My life continues to lead me on many adventures and allows me to experience new awareness, roles, relationships and perspectives.
